With the shutdown and the COVID-19 pandemic there is a need for outreach and education to patients, survivors and caregivers, in under-represented populations and military treatment facilities. This is especially true for those undergoing active treatment, chemo, radiation whereas PPE and other resources are low. Some of these groups are alone with no viable support system in place, for shopping, connecting with others, and basic food essentials.
The significance of June 20, 2020, is that it is the longest day of the year and what an awesome day to shine the light on a disease that has affected so many people; men, women, young, and old. The sun raises and set every day and what a powerful message that on this day, we made an impact in supporting and participating in the "Shining Light on Breast Cancer” 5k walk/run. Participants will finish their race via walk, run, treadmill of any other social distancing means that shines the light on breast cancer. Funds raised will go to support two military hospital and two health care facilities with care packages for those receiving chemotherapy.
The dates of the event is June 20 - July 19, 2020 with primary race day July 11, 2020

Our mission is to provide a holistic approach for health self-advocacy, preventive screening, access to optimal care, and patient-family support for those military active duty, caregivers, and veteran that wear or worn the uniform. The BCMF supports women, family, and caregivers affected by the disease breast cancer by providing informational resources, peer support, in order to make an informed decision. The Foundation reaches service members, underserved communities, and the general public though outreach about education, about risk, access to care, screening with the goal of empowering women and men on becoming their own health self-advocate. *
